Highway 44 resurfacing project in 2012 to include turn lanes through Caledonia
ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Highway 44 resurfacing project from Caledonia to Hokah will now include a continuous center left-turn lane and right-turn lanes through Caledonia, according to the city of Caledonia and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
During a public meeting in July 2010, attendees discussed safety concerns regarding Highway 44 through Caledonia.
“We listened to the community concerns, took a closer look at the intersections in Caledonia, and found it is possible to include additional turn lanes with the Highway 44 resurfacing project,” MnDOT Assistant District Engineer Greg Paulson said.
The city of Caledonia was unanimously in support of the additional turn lanes at the Sept. 13 city council meeting.
The new turn lanes will extend from the intersection of Old Highway Drive and Houston County
Road 12 to the commercial entrance north of Esch Drive and Foltz Drive.
The resurfacing project is scheduled to begin in summer 2012. A public meeting will be held prior to construction to inform area residents about the project and traffic impacts.
A separate resurfacing project on Highway 44 from Spring Grove to Caledonia is scheduled for summer 2011.
