Lane closures on southbound Interstate 35 in Steele County begin July 14
Ramp closure will affect traffic from southbound Interstate 35 to eastbound Highway 14
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists will encounter single lane traffic on the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near Owatonna beginning Wednesday, July 14, through September, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The ramp connecting southbound I-35 to eastbound Highway 14 will also be closed and traffic will be routed to a temporary ramp.
The closures are necessary as work continues on the three-year reconstruction of Highway 14 from Waseca to Owatonna which also includes construction of a new interchange at I-35 and Highway 14.
When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway.
Mathiowetz Construction Co., Sleepy Eye, Minn., is the prime contractor for the $51.8 million project. The entire project is expected to be completed by June 2012.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
