Highway 19 construction in Rice County begins July 9

ROCHESTER, Minn. —Motorists can expect single-lane traffic on Highway 19 between Lonsdale and Northfield when crews begin resurfacing the road on Friday, July 9, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Flaggers will control traffic throughout the project, which is scheduled to continue through August.

Traffic on Highway 19 will also be detoured three separate times beginning Friday, July 9, while crews replace culverts. All detour dates are weather permitting.

Detour one is scheduled for July 9-10:
Scott County Road 23 north, to Scott County Road 2 west, to Highway 13 south and back to Highway 19.

Detour two is scheduled for July 12-13:
In Lonsdale, north on Main Street, to 70th Street west and back to Highway 19.

Detour three is scheduled for July 14-22:
Rice County Road 59 back to Highway 19.

When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway. Crane Creek Asphalt, a division of Mathy Construction, is the prime contractor for the $6,528,271 construction project.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
