Overweight loads restricted on the Highway 43 bridge in Winona
Bridge repairs will require single-lane traffic next week
ROCHESTER, Minn. —Vehicles with overweight loads are restricted from crossing the Highway 43 bridge in Winona until late next week while bridge crews conduct gusset plate repairs, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The repairs are necessary to fix some gusset plate corrosion found during a bridge inspection today as part of the Winona Bridge Rehabilitation Study.
The weight limits are 80,000 pounds for tractor-trailers and 52,000 pounds for single-unit vehicles. Minnesota State Patrol officers are stationed on both ends of the bridge to stop any overweight vehicles from crossing.
Motorists will experience single-lane traffic on the bridge from Monday, June 7, to Friday, June 11, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and crews may work extended daytime hours. All lanes will reopen nightly.
The overweight restrictions are expected to be lifted after the repairs are complete.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
