Lane closure on Interstate 35 in Steele County begins June 28
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists will encounter single lane traffic on the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near Owatonna beginning Monday, June 28, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The lane closure will last approximately two weeks as crews construct a temporary ramp connecting I-35 southbound to Highway 14 eastbound.
All lanes will be open during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The work is part of the three-year reconstruction of Highway 14 from Waseca to Owatonna which also includes construction of a new interchange at I-35 and Highway 14. When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway.
Mathiowetz Construction Co., Sleepy Eye, Minn., is the prime contractor for the $51.8 million project. The entire project is expected to be completed by June 15, 2012.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
