Northbound Highway 61 shoulders to close in Lake City for historic restoration project
ROCHESTER, Minn. —Motorists will encounter temporary shoulder closures on northbound Highway 61 in Lake City beginning Monday, June 21, as crews restore the historic Lake City Concourse near the pier, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The shoulders will remain closed until the project is complete in mid-September, weather permitting. Crews will replace the storm sewer, reconstruct and restore the historic wall and pavement, replace retaining walls, stairs and railing, construct a parking lot and install a rain garden.
The Concourse parking lot and Lake Walk from Dakota Street to the pier will be closed for the duration of the project. Also, Lake Walk from Dakota Street to Elm Street will be closed in early July until the project is complete.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones. Pedestrians are also urged to obey all site closures.
