Highway 16 resurfacing in Houston County begins June 7
ROCHESTER, Minn. —Motorists will encounter a detour on Highway 16 beginning Monday, June 7, as crews begin a “reclamation resurfacing” project from the city of Houston to Hokah, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The detour route is:
- Highway 76 to
- Houston County Road 9 to
- Houston County Road 21 back to
- Highway 16
Reclamation resurfacing is the process of milling part of the existing road surface and reusing it during the resurfacing phase of the project.
Mathy Construction Company is the prime contractor for the $4.4 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of August, weather permitting. When the project is finished, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
