Winona County Safe & Sober Coalition partner to launch

2010 Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement


What:              Media event with local law enforcement to announce the upcoming increase in seat belt enforcement.


When:           Tuesday, May 18, 2010, 10:00 a.m.


Where:         Winona Law Enforcement Center
201 West Third Street, Winona, Minn.


Why:             To increase seat belt use and ultimately saves lives.
The seat belt use rate in southeastern Minnesota is 74 percent
(2006 –08 data) vs. a 90 percent statewide average.


Each year in Minnesota, more than half of the people who die in vehicle crashes are not buckled up.


Featured Speakers: 
Deputy Chief Tom Williams, Winona Police Department;
Winona County Deputy Tim O’Brien will present a Saved by the Belt award to a local teen who is graduating from Luther High School in La Crosse
and Minnesota State Patrol.


The southeast Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths initiative brings area law enforcement, public health educators, engineers and emergency services together in an effort to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and severe injuries to zero in southeast Minnesota. The 11-county area includes:  Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Winona and Wabasha counties.
