Routine bridge maintenance work on two Mississippi River crossings begins May 17
ROCHESTER, Minn. —Motorists may experience delays on two Mississippi River Crossings near Winona and La Crescent on May 17-20, weather permitting, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Highway 43 bridge over the Mississippi River near Winona
Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by flaggers during daytime working hours
(7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.) on May 17-18. Vehicles wider than eight feet will be restricted during this work.
Interstate 90 bridge over the Mississippi River near La Crescent
Traffic will encounter a moving operation with alternating lane closures May 18-20 during daytime working hours (7 a.m. - 4 p.m.) Vehicles wider than eight feet will be restricted during this work.
Crews will flush the bridges using water to wash the bridge joints, deck, railings, gutter line and bearings. Bridge flushing is done every year to prevent corrosion caused by salt and other debris. Flushing also reduces the amount of future maintenance work and increases the life of the bridge.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
