Southbound Interstate 35 construction from Highway 30 to Steel County Road 31 begins May 3
ROCHESTER, Minn. —Motorists can expect single lane traffic on northbound Interstate 35 between Ellendale and Hope when construction crews close the southbound lanes, beginning Monday, May 3, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The project on southbound I-35, from Highway 30 to Steele County Road 31 includes construction of a bituminous overlay as well as culvert repairs and guardrail replacements. The work will provide a smoother ride surface for motorists and increase the safety along I-35.
The Straight River South Rest Area will be closed due to construction and will reopen when the project is completed, about the end of July 2010.
Crane Creek Asphalt, a division of Mathy Construction Co., is the prime contractor for the $3,717,740 construction project.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
