Interstate 90 bridge project in Austin changes local traffic patterns beginning March 22
ROCHESTER, Minn. —New traffic patterns will begin on Monday, March 22, as part of the Interstate 90 "Bridges of Mower County" construction project through Austin, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. These traffic changes allow crews to prepare for the construction of the new I-90 Business Loop flyover bridge.
The flyover bridge from westbound I-90 in Austin to Oakland Place Northeast (I-90 Business Loop) will close on Monday, March 22. The exit will remain closed until September 2010 while crews construct a new flyover bridge. During this time, motorists will be detoured south on Highway 218 to Oakland Avenue East, and west to Oakland Place Northeast.
Lunda Construction is the primary contractor for this $12.8 million-dollar project, which includes four bridge replacements in two years. For more information, including a map of the detour route and a fact sheet on the bridge removal, visit www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/projects/bridges_of_mower_county/index.html or call the project hotline at 1-866-230-5352.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide travel information visit www.511mn.org, call 5-1-1 or log on to www.mndot.gov.
