ROCHESTER,
Minn. -- The Minnesota Department of Transportation, in cooperation
with the city of Red Wing, will host an open house Monday, February
26, to discuss an access management plan for portions of U.S.
Highway 61 and Minnesota Highway 19.
Over the
past year, Mn/DOT and the city have been studying Highway 61 from
Withers Harbor Drive to Highway 19, and a segment of Minnesota
19 from Highway 61 to Mill Road. A draft report entitled Red Wing
Access Management Plan was developed from the study results.
The plan considers
the existing highway configuration, accident history, traffic
count projections, and other information and makes recommendations
for future highway improvements. In particular the report makes
a series of recommendations for the closure of various median
crossings, street accesses, and driveway accesses onto Highway
61.
Mn/DOT and
city staff will present the draft access management plan on February
26, in the Foot Room of the Red Wing Public Library from 5:00-6:30
p.m. A brief presentation will be followed by a question and answer
period. Time will be allowed for attendees to view maps and discuss
the findings with staff.
