Resurfacing, bridge replacement begins mid-summer 2012
Location
- Highway 59, north Otter Tail County line to Pelican Rapids
Schedule
- Anticipated start date: Aug. 6, 2012
- End date: Mid- October 2012
Contractor
- Central Specialties Inc.
Cost
- $5,285,647
Anticipated traffic impacts
- A detour will begin immediately to allow crews replace two bridges during the months of August and September. Both bridges will be reconstructed at the same time to reduce the length of time the road is closed.
- Secondary detours will be in place during the bridge replacements, which will accommodate Otter Tail County Road 4 traffic and accesses off Highway 59 in between the two bridges.
(NOTE: The road closure and detours will not begin until after Aug. 5, 2012, following WE Fest.)
- Traffic north of the road closure will encounter lane closures with flaggers and pilot cars during resurfacing.
- Once the detour is lifted in late September (weather permitting) motorists may encounter lane closures while crews finish up the resurfacing and clean-up portions of the project.
Benefits
- Crews will mill the existing pavement approximately three inches and resurface it with bituminous. It will provide a smoother ride and a safer, more stable roadway.
- Crews will replace the two bridges that span the Pelican River on the east side of Prairie Lake with a different style of bridge. The new bridges will provide safer and longer lasting crossings.
Progress
