Highway 75 detour near Wheaton begins Sept. 11
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 75 near Wheaton will encounter a detour beginning Tuesday, Sept. 11, as crews begin culvert work and resurfacing of the highway. Traffic will be detoured to Traverse County Road 9 and County Road 6.
The work is part of a construction project on both Highway 27 and Highway 75 near Wheaton. Crews are currently finishing up the portion of the project on Highway 27, from Wheaton to just west of County Road 6. After Sept. 11, they will begin working on Highway 75, between Wheaton and Dumont.
Access will be maintained for local traffic along the work route, but all thru-traffic on Highway 75 must follow the detour.
In the upcoming weeks, motorists on Highway 27 may also still encounter lane closures and flaggers, as crews complete shouldering and final striping under traffic.
The project is expected to be completed by early October, weather permitting. Upon completion, motorists will experience a smoother, longer-lasting road surface. Visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/wheaton for more information.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) urges motorists to always drive with caution, and reminds them to slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
