Sidewalk, storm sewer, signal project in Benson begins May 1
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – A pedestrian accessibility improvement project will begin Monday, May 1, on Highway 9, Highway 12 and Highway 29 in Benson. The project also includes downtown storm sewer improvements and signal upgrades.
Crews will begin sidewalk work on Highway 12 east of downtown Benson. Crews will remove and replace sections of sidewalk on state highways throughout the city that do not meet the Americans with Disability Act standards.
Pedestrians will encounter sidewalk detours where crews are working. Motorists will encounter lane and parking restrictions.
Storm sewer work is scheduled to begin May 8 at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 13th Street. The intersection will close for about two weeks. During the closure, through-traffic on Highway 9 will detour to 20th Street and Highway 29. Through-traffic on Highway 12 will detour to County Road 72/County Road 25, Highway 9, 20th Street and Highway 29.
Once work is complete at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 13th Street, crews will move to Atlantic Avenue and 14th Street.
