Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 59 detour between Morris, Hwy 27 begins July 13

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 59 will encounter a detour between Morris and Highway 27 when a road resurfacing project begins July 13.

During the project, motorists will detour to Highway 9 and Highway 27.

When a road is closed it is illegal for through-traffic to travel on that section of highway.

Only residents who live within the road closure or motorists whose destination falls within the closure will be allowed to use Highway 59. Because the highway will receive a concrete overlay, at times motorists may be required to use the shoulders and travel may be restricted to one direction.

The project is expected to last approximately two months.

For a two-week period, the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 28 in Morris will also close for reconstruction. Additional information will be released before that work begins.

PCI of St. Michael is the prime contractor for the $5.3 million project.

More information about the project is available at www.mndot.gov/d4/projects/hwy59morris/.

When the project is complete, motorists will notice a smoother, safer ride along 11 miles of Highway 59. This project helps ensure MnDOT’s transportation system will continue to serve the state for many years.
