Preliminary I-94, Hwy 29 work in Alexandria is underway
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 29 south of Interstate 94 in Alexandria will encounter intermittent lane closures as crews begin preparing for this year’s I-94 bridge project.
Over the next week, crews will construct crossovers just north of I-94 and remove trees and shrubs near the interstate ramps. Once crossovers are complete, concrete barrier will be installed on Highway 29.
Crews will begin actual bridge work after the preliminary work is complete.
Key components of the 2016 work include:
- Replacement of the Highway 29 bridges over I-94
- I-94 ramp modifications to reduce congestion at 50th Avenue South
Throughout the project, Highway 29 will remain open to traffic in both directions. However, interstate ramps will close two at a time for two weeks during the summer.
Businesses and residents are encouraged to sign up for weekly email updates about the work through the project website: www.mndot.gov/d4/projects/alexi94hwy29.
Central Specialties of Alexandria is the prime contractor for the $14.9 million project. Work is expected to be complete by fall 2016.
