Highway 29/Broadway detour begins May 12

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists on Highway 29/Broadway Street in Alexandria will encounter a detour beginning Monday, May 12, weather permitting.

Crews will begin a reconstruction project between 3rd Avenue and 8th Avenue in downtown Alexandria. The project will be completed in three stages beginning on the north end of Broadway.

Trucks and through-traffic will detour west using 34th Avenue and Douglas County Road 45 or east using 34th Avenue and McKay Avenue.

Local traffic in downtown Alexandria will detour west onto Fillmore Street or east onto Hawthorne Street. Access to downtown businesses will be maintained throughout the project.

Sellin Brothers, Inc., of Hawley is the prime contractor for the $5.7 million project. Work is scheduled to be complete by late October, weather permitting.

More information about the project and regular project updates will be available at www.alexroadreport.com.

The reconstruction project is the result of a partnership between the city of Alexandria and the Minnesota Department of Transportation. This project helps ensure MnDOT’s transportation system will continue to serve the state for many years.
