Orange barrels on a highway

Public meetings scheduled for Highway 34 passing lane project

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — The public is invited to attend one of two open houses to learn more about a 2014-2015 project to construct passing lanes and turn lanes on Highway 34 between Detroit Lakes and Akeley.

The open houses will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Monday, Jan. 27 at the Park Rapids Library, 210 1st St. W, Park Rapids
  • Tuesday, Jan. 28 at M-State Detroit Lakes, Room C101, 900 Highway 34 E, Detroit Lakes

Short presentations will begin at 5:30 p.m. each evening.

The passing lanes and turn lanes are based on a 2003 Interregional Corridor Study. The project is funded by the Corridors of Commerce program authorized by the state legislature to help improve freight movement and mobility.

The meetings are an opportunity for the public to get an overview of the project and view preliminary designs.

Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and project consultant Kimley-Horn and Associates will be available at the meetings to answer questions.
