Orange barrels on a highway

Road preservation projects begin Aug. 12

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists can expect brief delays on Big Stone and Swift county highways beginning Monday, Aug. 12 as crews complete preventive maintenance seal coating projects on Highway 12 and Highway 59.

The projects will extend the life of the pavement surface.

The highways included in this road preservation project include:

  • Highway 12 from Ortonville to Benson
  • Highway 59 from Highway 12 to the Swift/Stevens county line

During this work, a pilot car and flaggers will control traffic, and motorists should plan for daily lane closures in the area where crews are working. Drivers are urged to slow down and be alert to loose gravel and oil spraying in these areas.

Crews will work during daylight hours.

The work is expected to be done by late August, weather permitting.
