Highway 7 detour between Appleton and Milan begins Sept. 3

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists on Highway 7 between Appleton and Milan will encounter a detour and possible delays when a culvert replacement and resurfacing project begins Tuesday, Sept. 3, weather permitting. The project includes pedestrian accessibility improvements in Appleton.

Starting Sept. 3, Highway 7 will close, and motorists will detour onto Highway 119 and Highway 40.

Residents who live within the road closure will be allowed to use Highway 7 during the project, but they will encounter temporary closures at culvert replacement sites.

Pedestrians will experience sidewalk detours along Highway 7 within Appleton, and vehicle traffic may experience intermittent lane closures. Preliminary work in Appleton may begin prior to Sept. 3.

The project is expected to be complete by early October, weather permitting.

When the project is finished, motorists will notice a smoother, safer ride along nine miles of Highway 7.
