Orange barrels on a highway

Highway 9 detour east of Benson begins July 8

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists on Highway 9 between Benson and Highway 104 will encounter a detour and delays when a road resurfacing and bridge replacement project begins July 8, weather permitting.

Crews will resurface 17 miles of Highway 9 and replace the Mud Creek bridge two miles east of Benson.

During the project Highway 9 will close, and motorists will detour to Highway 12 and Kandiyohi County Road 7.

Residents who live within the road closure will be allowed to use Highway 9 during the project, except at Mud Creek.

The road work is expected to be complete by late September, weather permitting.

When the project is complete, motorists will notice a smoother, safer ride along Highway 9.
