Orange barrels on a highway

Highway 7 detour west of Ortonville begins June 12

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists on Highway 7 between Ortonville and Beardsley will encounter a detour and possible delays when a road resurfacing and culvert replacement project begins June 12, weather permitting.

Crews will resurface Highway 7 from Highway 75 in Ortonville to Big Stone County Road 53 and an adjacent section of Highway 12 in Ortonville from Highway 7 to Highway 75. They will also replace several culverts along Highway 7.

During the project Highway 7 will close, and motorists will detour onto Highway 75 and Highway 28.

Residents who live within the road closure may use Highway 7, but they will encounter temporary closures at culvert replacement sites.

The project includes resurfacing Second Street and pedestrian accessibility improvements in downtown Ortonville. Resurfacing in Ortonville will begin after the accessibility improvements are complete. During resurfacing, local traffic will detour onto adjacent streets, but the public can access all businesses.

The road work is expected to be complete by early August, weather permitting.

When the project is complete, motorists will notice a smoother, safer ride along 16 miles of Highway 7.
