Highway 78 work nearly complete for 2013 season
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. —Work is nearly complete on Highway 78 for the 2013 construction season, but additional work needs to be completed next spring. Crews resurfaced 26 miles of Highway 78 from Perham to Battle Lake and reconstructed Lake Avenue in downtown Battle Lake.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience this summer and fall,” said Seth Yliniemi, Minnesota Department of Transportation project engineer. “While we had hoped work would be complete before winter, a few elements of the project need to be finished next year.”
Crews will install temporary hand rails along sections of the two-level sidewalks in Battle Lake until the permanent railings can be installed in early December.
Beginning in spring 2014, crews will complete four portions of the project:
- Pouring concrete in Battle Lake amenity zones. City crews filled the voids with sand for the winter.
- Paving the rest area parking lots and boat landing lot along Otter Tail Lake.
- Grooving in permanent striping. Crews have installed temporary striping for the winter.
- Boring in one culvert north of Rush Lake.
