I-94 ramp construction project in Moorhead begins Sept. 10

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists on I-94 at Main Avenue Southeast in Moorhead will experience intermittent delays, lane shifts and lane closures when a ramp construction project begins Monday, Sept. 10.

Crews will be constructing an eastbound off-ramp and westbound on-ramp connecting I-94 and Main Avenue Southeast.

Westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane during the first week while the inside shoulder is widened. Crews will then shift traffic toward the inside shoulder and reopen two lanes for the duration of the project.

Two eastbound lanes will remain open throughout the project, but the third eastbound auxiliary lane will be closed.

Work is scheduled to be complete in late October, weather permitting.

The original ramps at I-94 and Main Avenue Southeast were closed in December 2010 when the I-94/34th Street interchange opened.

The new ramps will improve safety by reducing the need for motorists to cross railroad tracks. They also will improve access for businesses and residents along Main Avenue.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide travel information, visit, call 5-1-1 or log on to
