Hwy 75 Kent bypass meeting scheduled for Aug. 27

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to attend a meeting about the Hwy 75 Kent bypass project on Monday, Aug. 27.

The open house is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Kent Community Center on Main Street. A brief presentation will take place at 5:45 p.m.

The meeting is an opportunity for the public to get an overview of the 2016 project, including the preliminary design.

Representatives from MnDOT will be available to answer questions and discuss concerns. Wilkin County representatives also will be available at the meeting to discuss how the project will impact nearby county roads.

MnDOT is planning a Hwy 75 bypass project near Kent because of repeated Hwy flooding along Whiskey Creek. The detour used during flood events reroutes Hwy traffic through the city of Kent and over an at-grade railroad crossing, which increases safety concerns. The realignment would eliminate future flood-related road repairs and detours, and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians. In addition, the bypass would eliminate the need for vehicles to travel under the BNSF Railway bridge, which has a restricted clearance.
