Highway 10/75 project update meeting scheduled for July 18 in Moorhead

DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to an informational meeting on Wednesday, July 18, from 3 to 5 p.m., about the recently postponed Highway 10/75 project in Moorhead.

The open-house style meeting will be held at the Moorhead City Hall Council Chambers, 500 Center Ave., Moorhead. MnDOT representatives will be available to address questions and concerns regarding the contractor bid results and subsequent project delay.

The project to improve traffic signals and accessibility on Highway 10 and Highway 75 as well as resurface Main Avenue was originally scheduled to begin in July 2012, following the city of Moorhead’s water main project on Main Avenue.

However, only one contractor submitted a $6.5 million bid, which was higher than the amount budgeted. The project, which will be paid for by MnDOT and the city of Moorhead, was estimated at $3.85 million with MnDOT’s share at $3 million and the city’s share at $850,000.

The project will be advertised for bids again in August 2012 and construction will begin in May 2013.

By advertising the project in the fall rather than in the summer, MnDOT anticipates competitive bids from additional contractors.
