Highway 59 detour removal scheduled for June 4

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists on Highway 59 south of Morris will encounter fewer delays when a road construction project detour is removed by the end of the day Monday, June 4.

Following the detour, motorists will still experience lane closures with flaggers while crews finish shouldering work and striping between Highway 28 and the Stevens/Swift county line.

All work is scheduled to be complete in mid-June, weather permitting.

The road was resurfaced using a pavement reclamation process. The existing pavement was recycled on site and used as a foundation for the new surface of the road. This results in cost savings and a longer pavement life.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide travel information, visit, call 5-1-1 or log on to
