Highway 29 project south of Starbuck begins May 29

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. —Motorists on Highway 29 between Starbuck and Benson will experience delays when a road resurfacing project and detour begin May 29.

Traffic will use a detour on Highway 28, Stevens County Road 1 and Highway 9 through late June while crews replace several culverts and repair frost heaves. A map of the detour is available at www.mndot.gov/d4/images/6105-20_hwy29_detour.pdf.

Following the detour, crews will resurface the roadway, which will require lane closures with a pilot car operation.

All work is scheduled to be complete in mid-July, weather permitting. The project was originally scheduled to begin in mid-June, but favorable weather conditions will allow the contractor to start the project early.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide travel information, visit www.511mn.org, call 5-1-1 or log on to www.mndot.gov.
