Highway 29 project in Alexandria begins Sept. 12
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists on Highway 29 between McKay Avenue and Third Avenue in Alexandria may experience delays when a construction project begins Sept. 12.
Motorists will encounter short lane closures, shoulder closures and heavy machinery where crews are working.
Crews will ensure the public can access all businesses in the work zone throughout the project.
The project includes:
- Resurfacing the road
- Extending the two northbound lanes north of Robert Street
- Closing the Lisa Avenue access to Highway 29
- Improving drainage and water quality in the surrounding area
The project is scheduled to be completed in mid-October.
These improvements will provide a safer road with better conditions and improved accessibility. The project is one of several recommendations developed as a result of the recent Alexandria Area Transportation Study. The study was a collaborative effort between the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Douglas County and the city of Alexandria.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide travel information, visit www.511mn.org, call 5-1-1 or log on to www.mndot.gov.
