REVISED DATE: Highway 27 project between Herman and Hoffman begins Sept. 6

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists on Highway 27 between Herman and Hoffman will experience delays when a construction project begins Sept. 6.

Aug. 29 was previously announced as the project start date but that has been delayed due to scheduling matters.

Traffic will be detoured to Grant County Road 11, Grant County Road 8, Highway 54 and Highway 55. Access for local traffic will be maintained throughout the entire project.

Crews will mill, reclaim and resurface the road, as well as replace six culverts. During the reclamation process the existing pavement will be recycled on site and used as a foundation for the new surface of the road. This process results in cost savings and a longer pavement life.

The project was originally scheduled to begin in July but the start date was delayed due to the state government shutdown in July. Construction is scheduled to be completed in mid-October. Upon completion, these improvements will provide a safer road with better conditions.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide travel information, visit, call 5-1-1 or log on to
