No travel advised in west central Minnesota - highways still closed
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — (8:15 a.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol advise no travel in west central Minnesota due to blowing and drifting snow causing reduced visibility and dangerous road conditions. They also remind motorists that the following roads are still closed:
- Interstate 94 from Moorhead to Alexandria
- Highway 10 from Moorhead to Detroit Lakes
- Highway 210 from Breckenridge to Fergus Falls
- Highway 28 from Browns Valley to Westport
The highways closed Friday at 4 p.m. and will remain closed until further notice. The highways will remain closed until conditions improve, snow plows have had a chance to clear roads for travel again, and MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol open the roads.
Motorists should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
