Interstate 94 in west central Minnesota will remain closed until Sunday

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — (8:45 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol advise motorists that Interstate 94 between Moorhead and Alexandria will be closed until Sunday.

I-94 closed Friday at 4 p.m. for the safety of the traveling public. The highway will remain closed until conditions improve, snowplows have had a chance to clear the highway for safe travel and MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol open the roads.

Motorists should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.

Intestate 94 in eastern North Dakota will also remain closed until Sunday.

Icy roadways and blowing snow continue to cause dangerous driving conditions in west central Minnesota.
