UPDATE: Flooding causes difficult driving conditions in west central Minnesota
Motorists should use extreme caution and expect delays
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — (5:45 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol urge motorists to drive with caution as flooding continues to affect highways in west-central Minnesota. While water has receded in some areas, flooding continues to affect portions of Becker, Clay, Grant, Mahnomen and Wilkin counties.
Road closures
The following state highways are currently closed until further notice:
- Highway 200 east of Mahnomen at Twin Lakes
- Highway 75 at Kragnes (north of Moorhead)
- Highway 75 at the Kent underpass
- Highway 55 between Wendell and Highway 59
- Highway 55 between Highway 75 and the North Dakota border
Lane/ramp closures
I-94 traffic is currently down to one lane in each direction between Highway 75/8th Street and the Red River due to the following lane and ramp closures:
- Interstate 94 westbound between Highway 75/8th Street and the Red River - right lane and entrance ramp are closed
- Interstate 94 eastbound between the Red River and Highway 75/8th Street - right and center lanes, and exit ramp are closed
Open - use caution
The following state highways are currently open but conditions can change rapidly. Motorists should use extreme caution approaching the following areas:
- Highway 225 at various locations along entire highway
- Highway 59 just south of Otter Tail/Grant county line
- Highway 79 east of Elbow Lake at Grant County Road 24
Motorists are urged to call 5-1-1 or log on to www.511mn.org for road condition information when traveling in the [northwest, west central, central] area or any area of Minnesota where potential flooding conditions exist. For motorists planning travel to North Dakota, log on to www.dot.nd.gov/roadreport/roadreport/roadreport.asp for information on current road conditions.
