Recent Safety Improvements
The Highway 55 Corridor Coalition, comprised of Wright and Hennepin Counties and the cities and townships along the Highway 55 Corridor, successfully lobbied for and received federal transportation funding for spot safety improvements and right of way acquisitions along the corridor. The Coalition awarded partial funding for two projects on Highway 55 in Wright County. Both projects were constructed in 2009 and included:
- Intersection west of Buffalo
Turn lanes and a traffic signal was installed at the intersection of Highway 55 and Wright County Highway 12 west of Buffalo. This intersection serves a new school in the Buffalo School District.
- Extend four-lane southeast of Buffalo
The four-lane on Highway 55 southeast of Buffalo was extended southeast through the Wright County Road 134 intersection, including turn lanes and a traffic signal system for safer access to the Buffalo Airport Commercial Park.
These projects provide important interim safety benefits and complement the overall expansion of the corridor to a four lane expressway.
