Project Study
Future safety and mobility improvements are being planned for Hwy 371 between Nisswa and Pine River in Crow Wing and Cass Counties.
These improvements include the expansion of the existing two lane
roadway to a four lane divided highway.
Various communities along the corridor are working with MnDOT to plan and develop final layouts for the future expansion.
Nisswa
In 2012- 2013, a access and safety improvement project will be constructed on Hwy 371 in Nisswa. The signalized intersection at Crow Wing CR 18 and Hwy 371 will be realigned approximately one quarter mile south. The project is in partnership with MnDOT, Crow Wing County and the city of Nisswa. Pequot Lakes
In spring
of 2006, the Pequot Lakes City Council requested that MnDOT give
consideration to accepting the four lane expansion bypass option as the new preferred alternative. MnDOT has been working together
with the city to examine the effects of this change. A joint committee comprised of members of the City Council and the Pequot Lakes Planning and Zoning Commission have met, evaluated and refined the details of a bypass alignment. In September 2007, a Hwy 371 Alternate Route Study Group Report was published with the committees findings.
Jenkins
In an associated project, construction of a temporary signal at Crow Wing County Road 16 was completed in 2008. Public input regarding future access points to the new industrial park and service road continues.
Pine River
In 2012, crews will resurface Hwy 371 from Upper Roy Lake Rd to Pine River. Also, Pine River is scheduled for sidewalk installation, curb and gutter from Ridge Avenue to Jefferson Ave on the east side of Hwy 371 and new curb and gutter from Norway Ave to Jefferson Ave on the west side. Right turn lanes will be added at the signalized intersections for both northbound and southbound traffic.
In 2011, relocation and rehabilitation of the historic Pine River Depot was completed in preparation for the future reconstruction of Hwy 371 through Pine River. MnDOT, Cass county, city of Pine River and the Heritage Group North partnered on the project.
