On Oct. 7, 2014, MnDOT selected $70 million in Corridors of Commerce projects for FY 2015. Twelve projects will be funded with $25 million from the 2014 state Legislature to prepare them for future construction. The other project is the $58 million ($45 million CC funds) expansion of Highway 371 to four lanes from Nisswa to Jenkins. See the governor's announcement.

Future plans, project study
Future safety and mobility improvements are being planned for Hwy 371 between Nisswa and Pine River. The improvements include the expansion of the remaining two-lane segments to four-lanes with better access.
Communities along the corridor have been working with MnDOT to expand the highway to four lanes. The remaining two lane segment between Jenkins and Pine River remains in 'Project Study' status. Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Jenkins, Pine River
- In 2016-2017, Hwy 371 will be expanded to four lanes from Nisswa to Jenkins, including two miles in Nisswa.
- Construct four lanes of highway north of Nisswa Avenue, road and trail connections and two Cullen Brook bridges
In 2012-2014, one mile of the existing four-lane of Hwy 371 was reconstructed through Nisswa, including:
- Four lanes of highway, signalized intersection and realignment of CR 18, a roundabout, pedestrian tunnel, city road improvements and utilities
- In 2016-2017, Hwy 371 will be expanded to four lanes from Nisswa to Jenkins, including six miles in Pequot Lakes.
- Four lanes of realigned highway east of downtown, access road connections, CR 11 interchange with roundabout ramps and a Paul Bunyan Trail bridge

of 2006, the Pequot Lakes City Council requested that MnDOT give
consideration to accepting the four lane expansion bypass option as the new preferred alternative. MnDOT has been working together
with the city to examine the effects of this change. A joint committee comprised of members of the City Council and the Pequot Lakes Planning and Zoning Commission have met, evaluated and refined the details of a bypass alignment. In September 2007, a Hwy 371 Alternate Route Study Group Report was published with the committees findings.

- Construct four lanes of highway, upgrade the signalized intersection at CR 16, and install road and trail connections.
- The remaining two-lane segment between Jenkins and Pine River remains unprogrammed and in 'Project Study' status.
- Construction of a temporary signal at Crow Wing County Road 16 was completed in 2008. Public input regarding future access points to the new industrial park and service road continues.

In 2012, Hwy 371 was resurfaced from Upper Roy Lake Rd to Pine River. Also, pedestrian access improvements were installed from Ridge Ave to Jefferson Ave on the east side of Hwy 371 in Pine River and new curb and gutter from Norway Ave to Jefferson Ave on the west side. Right turn lanes were also installed at the signalized intersection.
- In 2011, relocation and rehabilitation of the historic Pine River Depot was completed in preparation for the future reconstruction. MnDOT, Cass county, city of Pine River and the Heritage Group North partnered on this project.
