Reconstruction of Highway 25 in Pierz starts June 1

BAXTER, Minn. - Motorists will encounter a road closure and detour in Morrison County on Highway 25 from Highway 27 to 4th Avenue North in the city of Pierz beginning Tuesday, June 1 when a road reconstruction project begins. Work includes replacing curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm sewers, city utilities and new overhead street lights.

The project will require Highway 25 to close to traffic through town. Motorists will follow a signed detour on Highway 27, to Centennial Drive, to 3rd Avenue/Morrison County Highway 43.

In early June, motorists will utilize 4th Avenue North and Vincent Street for approximately one month to allow crews to work at the intersection of Highway 25 and 3rd Avenue/Morrison County Highway 43.

Knife River Corporation of Sauk Rapids is the prime contractor for this $2.6 million road and accessibility improvement project. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-August, weather permitting.

During construction and road maintenance work, MnDOT urges drivers to:

  • Check www.511mn.org or call 511 for up-to-date information about traffic and road conditions.
  • Stay alert; expect the unexpected.
  • Never enter a road that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
  • Follow posted speed limits; fines double in work zones.
  • Be patient.
  • Plan ahead and expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
