BAXTER, Minn. - Repair work on the Highway 10 bridge over the Mississippi River at the Little Falls bypass will begin Saturday, March 20, under an Emergency Order issued by the Minnesota Department of Transportation today.
MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol closed the bridge on March 17 due to strong currents that caused an ice jam in the main channel and erosion to the bridge. The road is closed at County Road 113 and County Road 76.
Under the Emergency Order, MnDOT officials have directed Lunda Construction Company of Black River Falls, Wis., to complete emergency repairs to the Highway 10 bridge.
Lunda crews will begin work by stabilizing the westbound lanes of the bridge in an effort to return traffic to Highway 10 as quickly as possible. Crews will remove the approach panels and will assess damage to the bridge caused by the ice jams and flooding. Once these repairs are completed, the westbound lanes will open and carry a single lane of traffic in each direction over the bridge. Crews will then begin replacing the eastbound portion of the bridge.
Currently, westbound traffic is being routed from Highway 10 north to Highway 371 to Highway 115 (Camp Ripley) west on Highway 115 to Highway 10. Eastbound traffic is being routed at Randall to Highway 115, south on Highway 371 to Highway 10.
