Highway 169 lane closures along Mille Lacs Lake

Baxter, Minn. – Motorists traveling Highway 169 along the west shore of Mille Lacs Lake may encounter delays as the road is intermittently reduced to single lane, one-way traffic began the week of April 29, weather permitting.

The lane closures will occur between Ojibwe Drive and Earle Brown Drive, near Wigwam and Shah-Bush-Kung Bays, from sunrise to sunset Mondays through Thursdays, and from sunrise until noon on Fridays.

Flaggers and a pilot car will allow one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone each day.

Drivers should slow down, be prepared to stop and must follow the pilot car as they navigate the daily work zone.

Motorists entering Highway 169 from driveways and businesses within the work zone must also wait for the pilot car to pass, then follow it through the daily work zone.

The lane closures are needed as crews construct left turn lanes, install overhead lights and make other improvements at Pine Center Road/Mille Lacs County Road 25, Noopiming Road and Wagidaaki Drive. When complete, the project will improve safety and mobility in the area.

The project and lane closures will be completed by Friday, June 14.
