Hwy 23 opens as four lanes between St. Cloud and Foley

Detour lifted as construction winds down

ST. CLOUD, Minn. —Hunters and other motorists travelling for the opening weekend of Minnesota’s firearms deer season will find four new lanes of roadway open on Highway 23 between St. Cloud and Foley.

The road will open by 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.

Highway 23 between Highway 95 near St. Cloud and Highway 25 in Foley was closed March 19 as crews completed a project that converted eight miles of the busy roadway to a four-lane divided highway.

The redesigned highway also includes new turn lanes, programmable signal system with flashing yellow arrows at the Highway 23/25 intersection, improved drainage system, improved local roads and utilities and upgraded pedestrian crosswalks that meet modern accessibility standards.

Traffic engineers will next monitor the roadway’s operations, optimize the signal timing at the Hwy 23/25 intersection and conduct a speed study.
