Motorists traveling on Highway 23 will use detour
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Motorists traveling on Hwy 23 from Hwy 95 east of St. Cloud to Hwy25 in Foley will encounter a detour beginning Monday, March 19. Construction will resume to expand Hwy 23 east of St. Cloud to a four-lane divided highway.
Motorists traveling on Hwy 23 will use a detour via Hwy 95 and Hwy 25. Local businesses and residents will maintain access during the detour. Map
In 2011, crews constructed two new lanes. Work this year includes reconstructing the existing two lanes and turn lanes, constructing a westbound bridge over the Elk River and realigning all intersecting roadways, including 65th Ave, Benton CR 25, 85th Ave/Benton CR 83, Benton CR 61, Benton CR 62 and Benton CR 4.
Additional work in Foley includes upgrading the traffic signal and adding turn lanes at the Hwy 23/25 intersection, building a storm water pond just northeast of the Hwy 23/25 intersection, reconstructing the Glen/Sheridan frontage road in the Industrial Park, installing city curbs, gutters, storm/sanitary sewers, water mains and other utilities and resurfacing the two-lane section of Hwy 23 from Hwy 25 to the east limits of Foley.
The goal of this project is to improve safety and mobility along the Hwy 23 corridor.
Hoffman Construction Company of Black River Falls, Wis., is the prime contractor for the project.
During construction and road maintenance work, MnDOT urges drivers to:
- Check www.511mn.org or call 511 for up-to-date information about traffic and road conditions.
- Stay alert; expect the unexpected.
- Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
- Plan ahead and expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
