Prep work for Hwy 371 project begins May 4
BAXTER, Minn.— Motorists on Hwy 371 between Baxter and Nisswa may encounter lane closures and reduced speeds beginning May 4 as crews begin preparations for an upcoming resurfacing project.
Crews begin resurfacing Hwy 371 from just south of Hwy 210 in Baxter to north of the city of Nisswa on Monday, May 9. This project also includes constructing shoulders and turn lanes, upgrading traffic signals and closing median crossovers. When completed, motorists will experience a safer road with improved mobility.
Access to local businesses will be maintained.
In an effort to alleviate seasonal traffic congestion, crews are required to conduct night work from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. daily from the railroad tracks to Woida Road in Baxter but the night work may be extended farther north to make contractor operations more efficient. In addition, no construction will occur during the weekends.
For more information on the project and a map of crossovers scheduled to be removed, visit the project website at www.dot.state.mn.us/d3/hwy371baxter-nisswa/index.html.
Anderson Brothers Construction of Brainerd is the prime contractor for this $8.4 million roadway improvement project. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-August, weather permitting.
During construction and road maintenance work, the Minnesota Department of Transportation urges drivers to:
- Check www.511mn.org or call 511 for up-to-date information about traffic and road conditions.
- Stay alert; expect the unexpected.
- Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
- Plan ahead and expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
