Drive to 4th Avenue
Great news! The bituminous paving on the Highway 23/Division Street mainline is complete.
Note: 9th/10th Avenue will be closed from St. Germain Street to 4th Street South on Saturday, October 17, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The closure is needed to allow for the final layer of blacktop to be placed on 9th/10th Avenue. All work is weather dependent.
Motorists should follow signed detours during this closure.
Concrete sidewalk under the Lake George bridge, along the south bound lanes of 9th Ave, will be completed this week.
Work on concrete medians and various concrete sidewalk locations along Highway 23 continues.
Street light work continues on 9th/10th Avenue.
Top soil finishing and turf establishment continues throughout the project.
Final paint striping and crosswalk markings are being placed along Highway 23 mainline.
Soil correction in the Cloverleaf Parking continues.
9th/10th Avenue traffic will continue to use the inside lanes in each direction of travel.
A temporary pedestrian crossing has been established at 12th Avenue. Law enforcement officers are present in the morning and afternoon for traffic control to assist pedestrians crossing Highway 23. The permanent pedestrian "Hawk System" crossing at 12th Avenue will be operational in late October.
The Highway 23 project, including the bridge at Lake George, is still on schedule to open to four lanes of traffic in early November.
Highway 23 Granite City Crossing Bridge
Note: Highway 23 from Lincoln Avenue to Wilson Avenue is scheduled to open to traffic by mid-afternoon on Thursday, Oct. 15.

REMINDER: The sidewalk between Wilson Avenue and 4th Avenue is closed including the bridge. For safety reasons, please do not attempt to walk or bike across the bridge during construction.
Crews are scheduled to pave the final layer of bituminous on mainline westbound from the bridge through 4th Avenue to the west next week. Both lanes from the bridge to Wilson Avenue are paved.
Crews are placing rip rap on the east river bank.
Barges will be removed from the Mississippi River by the end of this week.
Turf establishment continues.
Sidewalks and slope paving are being poured along Highway 23 and the pedestrian trail.
Light standards have been erected on the Granite City Crossing Bridge posts and crews continue to work on the wiring of the lights and junction boxes.
The installation of the ornamental railing for the bridge will be completed by the end of this week. Granite veneer installation for bridge rail is scheduled to be completed next week.
Riverside Avenue is scheduled to open to the public in mid-November.
Sidewalks may need to stay closed over the winter, depending upon weather.
Crews expect to work this Saturday to make up for weather delays. The project is still on schedule for completion in early November.
