Washington Memorial Drive to 4th Avenue; includes overpass at Lake George

NOTE: 6th Avenue South between 3rd and 4th Street South will be closed to through traffic due to construction in the area from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., as needed, between Sept.17-25.

Eastbound traffic is scheduled to be switched over to the eastbound side of Highway 23/Division Street early next week. Westbound traffic on Highway 23/Division Street in St. Cloud will continue using the new westbound lanes throughout the entire length of the project.

5th, 7th, 14th and Washington Memorial Drive intersections are now all open and operating on signal systems. 6th Avenue is open with stop signs and 12th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th are open on the north side of Highway 23/Division Street.

All intersections will require temporary closures for the final concrete median and paving in later stages of the project.

Sidewalk installation between 12th Avenue and Lake George Bridge will be completed this week.

Painting of the Cloverleaf parking lot begins this week.

Wood deck form removal has begun and will continue into next week.

8th Avenue and the 1st Street/8th Avenue intersection are closed to traffic to allow crews to complete planned construction work. This closure will remain in effect until early October. Storm sewer installation along 8th Avenue is complete.

Grading continues through next week.

Granite veneer installation on the eastbound bridge rail is scheduled to be completed this week.

Motorists traveling on 9th Avenue between 4th Street and St. Germain will be utilizing the newly constructed northbound lanes of 9th/10th Avenue.

Grading on the southbound lanes of 9th/10th Avenue and the westbound on/off ramp has been completed. On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. Grading for the sidewalk in this area begins next week.

9th/10th Avenue is scheduled to be paved early next week. Curb and gutter along the southbound lanes of 9th/10th Avenue is scheduled to begin this week.

A temporary pedestrian crossing has been established at 12th Avenue. Law enforcement officers are present in the morning and afternoon for traffic control to assist pedestrians crossing Highway 23. The permanent pedestrian "Hawk System" crossing at 12th Avenue will be operational in October.

Street lighting continues to be installed along the project corridor. Final signal system installation at 10th Avenue and 1st Street has begun.

Concrete sidewalk installation is nearing completion, with the concrete median to follow shortly after.

The Highway 23 project, including the Lake George bridge, is still on schedule to open to four lanes of traffic in early November.



4th Avenue to Wilson Avenue; includes Mississippi River Bridge

The railings and posts for the retaining wall was completed this week. Air blasting and priming of the overlook brackets and end diaphragms work is also completed.

Sidewalks and slope paving are being poured along Highway 23, the 4th Avenue intersection, Alley Drive, Wilson Avenue, and the bike trail and should be completed next week.

Light poles will be installed on the bridge next week.

Special surface finishing on the bridge piers and railing began this week along with painting of the fascial beams and overlook brackets.

Granite veneer installation for bridge rail will continue through October along with installation of the ornamental railing for the bridge.

The project is on schedule for completion in early November.
