Washington Memorial Drive to 4th Avenue; includes overpass at Lake George

NOTE: 6th Avenue South between 3rd and 4th Street South will be closed to through traffic due to construction in the area from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., as needed, between September 17 and September 25.

Beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, 9th/10th Avenue will be closed from St. Germain Street to 4th Street South for construction work on the Lake George Bridge. This portion of the roadway will reopen to traffic at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The closure will be repeated on Tuesday evening, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, to allow crews to complete this work.

On Wednesday, Sept. 23, beginning at 6 p.m. expect traffic delays on 1st Street North at the intersection of 5th Avenue North due to utility work in the area.

Local businesses and City/Church parking along 1st Street will have access from northbound 9th/10th Avenue only, during the day. These same businesses and City/Church parking will have southbound 9th/10th Avenue access only, during the night time closure.

8th Avenue and the 1st St/8th Avenue intersection are closed to allow crews to complete planned construction work. This closure will remain in effect until early October.

Motorists traveling on 9th Avenue between 4th Street and St. Germain will be utilizing the newly constructed northbound lanes of 9th/10th Avenue.

Concrete removals along the southbound lanes of 9th/10th Avenue have been completed. Storm sewer installation along 9th Avenue will be completed this week with the grading operation continuing into next week.

On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic.

Traffic on Highway 23/Division Street in St. Cloud will continue using the new westbound lanes throughout the entire length of the project. 5th, 7th, 14th and Washington Memorial Drive intersections are now all open and operating on signal systems.

6th Avenue is open with stop signs and 12th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th are open on the north side of Highway 23/Division Street. All intersections will require temporary closures for the final concrete median and paving in later stages of the project.

A temporary pedestrian crossing has been established at 12th Avenue. Law enforcement officers are present in the morning and afternoon for traffic control to assist pedestrians crossing Highway 23. The permanent pedestrian "Hawk System" crossing at 12th Avenue will be operational in October.

The final eastbound bridge wearing course overlay was poured this week Wednesday. East bound railing has been completed with the granite veneer scheduled to begin on Monday.

Street lighting continues to be installed along the project corridor.

Concrete sidewalk installation is nearing completion, with the concrete median to follow shortly after.

Bituminous paving between 12th Avenue and 8th Avenue will begin on Monday, Sept. 21.

The Highway 23 project, including the Lake George bridge, is still on schedule to open to four lanes of traffic in early November.

4th Avenue to Wilson Avenue; includes Mississippi River Bridge

The concrete wearing course over the bridge deck was completed this week.

Crews are forming the railings and posts on the retaining wall and expect to be done this week.

Blasting and priming of the overlook brackets and end diaphragms will be done this week.

Crews finished paving the first two layers of bituminous west of the bridge, 4th Avenue intersection, Alley Drive and the alley turn-around east of the bridge.

Gravel is being placed for the sidewalk, to be poured next week. Sidewalk work should be completed in two weeks.

Signal system at Wilson Avenue is installed. Crews will continue to work on the lighting unit. Lighting poles will be installed on the bridge next week.

Granite veneer installation for bridge rail will continue through October.

Special surface finish to the bridge piers and painting of the fascial beams and overlook brackets began this week.

The project is on schedule for completion in early November.
