Drive to 4th Avenue; includes overpass at Lake George
Traffic on Highway 23/Division Street in St. Cloud will continue using the new westbound lanes throughout the entire length of the project.
5th, 7th, 14th and Washington Memorial Drive intersections are now all open and operating on signal systems. 6th Ave is open with stop signs and 12th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th are open on the north side of Highway 23/Division Street. All intersections will require temporary closures for the final concrete median and paving in later stages of the project.
On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street and St. Germain.
Slope paving/grading work begins this week under the new bridge.
Bridge decking on the eastbound portion of the new bridge began this week with the deck pour scheduled for the week of August 24th.
Signal system installations continue at Washington Memorial Drive and also at 10th Ave/1st Street.
Grading work on northbound 10th Avenue and also on 1st Street continues this week.
The Highway 23 project, including the bridge at Lake George, is still on schedule to open to four lanes of traffic in early November.
4th Avenue to Wilson Avenue;
includes Mississippi River Bridge
Note: Construction of Highway 23 from west of 4th Avenue to the Mississippi River bridge and the 4th Avenue intersection began on Thursday, August 20th. Highway 23 is closed at 5th Avenue.
Traffic is detoured using 5th Avenue and 1st Street South back to 4th Avenue. This detour will be in place for approximately three weeks to allow crews to complete the work. Detour map
Removal of existing curb, gutter, sidewalk, signal bases, and pavement begins at 4th Avenue. Installation of new storm sewers, subcut and backfill with granular materials begins.
Paving bituminous from east of the bridge to beyond Wilson Avenue is scheduled for next week. Curb and gutter and bituminous paving from 4th Avenue to west of the bridge is schedule to be completed in the next three weeks.
The bridge structural deck is complete and crews are working on railing and sidewalk though the next few weeks. The final installation of the water main brackets under the bridge and testing of the main was completed this week. The bridge approach panels construction will follow.
Crews finished installation of the bases and conduit systems for the signal system at Wilson Avenue and the interconnect conduits east of the bridge this week.
The project is on schedule for completion in early November.
