Drive to 4th Avenue; includes overpass at Lake George
Three Week Detour Change:
Highway 23 will be closed at 5th Avenue.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, traffic will
be detoured using 5th Avenue and 1st Street South back to
4th Avenue. This detour will be in place for approximately
three weeks to allow crews to complete the work.
The change is necessary to reconstruct the intersection
at 4th Avenue South and Highway 23. Once completed, detoured
traffic will be resume directly to 4th Avenue. Specific
dates will be announced in a future weekly update.

Construction of Highway 23 from west of 4th Avenue to the Mississippi
River bridge and the 4th Avenue intersection is scheduled to begin
on Thursday, August 20th.
Traffic on Highway 23/Division Street in St. Cloud will continue
using the new westbound lanes throughout the entire length of
the project. 5th, 7th, 14th and Washington Memorial Drive intersections
are now all open and operating on signal systems. 6th Avenue is
open with stop signs and 12th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th Avenues
are open on the north side of Highway 23/Division Street. All
intersections will require temporary closures for the final concrete
median and paving in later stages of the project.
The south side of 4th Avenue at Highway 23/Division Street is
closed to traffic to help facilitate the new eastbound traffic
lane movement.
On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th
Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street
and St. Germain Street.
Substructure concrete pours were completed this week on the bridge
at Lake George with the beam placement scheduled to begin Thursday
morning at 6 a.m. Beam placement will also require night closures
of 9th/10th Avenue on Thursday night.
Bridge decking will begin next week Monday, Aug. 17, with the
deck pour scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Signal system installations continue at Washington Memorial Drive
and also at the intersection of 10th Avenue/1st Street.
Street lighting along the Highway 23 corridor continues between
12th Avenue and 14th Avenue.
Grading work on 10th Avenue and also on 1st Street continues this
week.
The Highway 23 project, including the bridge at Lake George, is
still on schedule to open to four lanes of traffic in early November.

Deck pours over pier #1 and pier #2 were completed this week.
This completes the structural deck for the bridge. Railing and sidewalk
work began this week and continues though the next few weeks. The
final installation of the water main brackets under the bridge will
take place, along with the testing of the main, early next week.
The bridge approach panels construction will follow.
Crews are finishing the base work on the east side at Wilson Avenue.
Curb and gutter is complete and bituminous paving is scheduled for
next week. Grading begins on the west side of the bridge next week.
Crews will finish the installation of the bases and conduit systems
for the signal system and interconnect at east of the bridge this
week.
The project is on schedule for completion in early November.
