Washington Memorial
Drive to 4th Avenue; Overpass at Lake George
Note Traffic Impact:
Beginning on Monday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m., crews
will close 9th/10th Avenue to remove the sheeting under the
Lake George bridge. The roadway will reopen to traffic at 5:30
a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, or sooner, if the work is completed
earlier than anticipated. Please follow the posted detour.
Traffic on Highway 23/Division Street in St. Cloud will continue
using the new westbound lanes throughout the entire length of
the project. The 5th, 6th and 7th Avenue intersections are now
open to traffic from all directions, but will require temporary
closures for the final concrete median and paving in later stages
of the project.
Washington Memorial Drive remains closed south of Highway 23 to
allow for the planned construction in the intersection. Curb work
is scheduled for late this week, with paving scheduled early next
week. Motorists should follow the signed detour which utilizes
14th Avenue and 7th Street. Westbound left turns at Washington
Memorial Drive are still prohibited for the remainder of the project.
The south side of 4th Avenue at Highway 23/Division Street is
closed to traffic to help facilitate the new eastbound traffic
lane movement.
On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th
Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street
and St. Germain.
Concrete sidewalk is scheduled to resume on 9th Avenue and the
eastbound on-ramp Thursday and Friday of this week.
Concrete pours continue on the Lake George bridge with the beam
placement scheduled to begin on Wednesday or Thursday of next
week. This work will require night closures of 9th/10th Avenue.
More information will be sent to you as soon as those dates have
been determined.
The signal system installation at Washington Memorial Drive will
continue this week.
Street lighting along the Highway 23 corridor is a continuos operation,
but is nearing completion.
The Highway 23 project, including the Lake George bridge, is still
on schedule to open to four lanes of traffic in early November.
4th Avenue to Wilson Avenue;
Mississippi River Bridge
Note Traffic Impact:
Beginning late August the Highway 23 traffic
detour at 4th Avenue West and Highway 23 will be revised. The
Highway 23 traffic will be detoured on 5th Avenue West and 1st
Avenue South. Motorists will be directed north on 5th Avenue
to 1st Avenue South (1 block) and then east back to 4th Avenue
(1 block). This change in the detour route for Highway 23 traffic
is necessary to construct the new intersection of 4th Avenue
West and Highway 23. Once the intersection at 4th Avenue is
complete, traffic will be returned to 4th Avenue.
Two deck pours are scheduled for early next week over pier #1
and pier #2. This will compete the structural deck for the bridge.
Railing and sidewalk work will begin this week and continue though
the next few weeks. The final installation of the water main brackets
under the bridge will take place, along with the testing of the
main, next week. The bridge approach panels construction will
follow.
Crews are finishing the grading and base work on the east side
at Wilson Avenue. Curb and gutter is scheduled for next week.
Grading will begin on the west side of the bridge next week.
Some barges are being removed from the river.
The project is on schedule for completion in early November.
Existing local and truck detours will remain in place.
