Drive to 4th Avenue; Overpass at Lake George
***Revised traffic impact:
Due to a city of St. Cloud project on 5th Avenue,
the closure scheduled for the south side of 7th Avenue and Highway
23/Division Street to facilitate the planned construction in
the intersection will be moved to Wednesday, July 15 not Friday,
July 10 as originally noted.***
5th Avenue will open to traffic on Wednesday, July 15 and motorists
will be using the intersection at 5th Avenue for the remainder of
the project.
Night work along with a 9th/10th Avenue detour will be required
this week to complete various bridge removals and utility work.
Water main installation at 10th Avenue and 1st Street will begin
Thursday night, July 9.
Sheet piling work began last night along 9th Avenue.
The second stage of the Lake George bridge removals began this
week with the deck, beams and piers removed. Pile driving in the
west abutment is scheduled to start this Friday.
Grading work continues in the eastbound lanes from Washington
Memorial Drive to 12th Avenue. Gravel surfacing planned for the
end of this week.
Traffic on Highway 23/Division Street in St. Cloud has switched
over to the westbound lanes. Traffic is now utilizing the newly
constructed north half of the Lake George bridge.
Eastbound left turns at Washington Memorial Drive are no longer
permitted, for the remainder of the project. Eastbound motorists
can turn left or go straight and turn left at several intersections
beginning with 16th Avenue. Eastbound right turns and westbound
right/left turning movements will be allowed at Washington Memorial
Drive.
The south side of 4th Avenue at Highway 23/Division Street is
closed to traffic to help facilitate the new eastbound traffic
lane movement.
The south side of 14th Avenue at Highway 23/Division Street is
closed and will remain closed throughout the remainder of the
project.
On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th
Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street
and St. Germain
Bituminous paving in the eastbound lanes has been completed from
4th Avenue to 6th Avenue. Final wearing course will be paved in
the last stage of the project.
Geofoam placement is complete on the westbound on/off ramps. Remaining
eastbound Geofoam will be placed along the Lake George area in
future stages of the project.
Street light base and conduit installation continues throughout
the project.
Mississippi River Bridge
Traffic Impact:
Beginning Monday, July 20th, Highway 23 will
be closed from Wilson Avenue to Lincoln Avenue to allow crews
to reconstruct the Wilson Avenue intersection. This work will
include watermain, storm sewer, curb and gutter, bituminous
surfacing, lighting and a new signal system. Motorists using
Highway 23 will be detoured onto Lincoln Avenue to 1st Street
North. Wilson Avenue will remain open during this work. Work
will be completed by early November.
Span 4 bridge deck over Riverside Drive was poured this week.
Decking crews are finishing decking the main bridge spans over
the river.
Grading of Riverside Drive, 4th Avenue SE to the alley connection
and on Highway 23 from the bridge to Wilson Avenue continues.
Crews nearing completion of work on walls for the bike trail and
bridge retaining wall on the west side of the river.
Crews have started placing deck rebar at west abutment and will
continue placing deck reinforcement and install shear studs for
the next two weeks.
Granite stone veneer installation continues on the east abutment
for the remainder of this week and will return to the job as soon
as railing work can begin.
Crews are completing installation of the 16" insulated water
main for the river crossing between the girders. East approach
panel will be formed and poured after water main work is completed.
Boat traffic will be maintained on the Mississippi River during
this project.
