June 26 - July 8

Fourth of July Holiday

Due to the upcoming Fourth of July Holiday, and subsequent shorter work week, there will not be a project update sent out next week. The regular construction updates will resume on Thursday, July 9. A special edition will be issued, if required, during this time. Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

GrandStay Criterium Bike Race on June 28

Due to a City of St. Cloud hosted bike race, the GrandStay Criterium Bike Race, an all-day event scheduled for this Sunday, June 28, 2nd Street South will be closed in the vicinity of Tech High School. Residents on 12th Avenue and 13th Avenue between 2nd Street and Highway 32 will need to use the temporary gravel roadway that will be constructed on the eastbound lanes of Highway 23. Access to the temporary roadway will be at the alley between 12th and 13th Avenues and also at 13th Avenue. The temporary roadway will route local motorists up to the signalized 14th Avenue intersection. This detour will be in place during Sunday's bike race only. After the race the which the streets will be re-opened to traffic.

Washington Memorial Drive to 4th Avenue; Overpass at Lake George

Highway 23/Division Street contractor and crews have the option to work Friday, July 3, if needed.

Temporary pedestrian crossings of Highway 23/Division Street have been opened at Washington Memorial Drive, 14th Avenue, 7th Avenue and 4th Avenue. Pedestrians can access these at the east side of the intersections.

Due to forecasted extreme high temperatures, Lunda crews began bridge work on Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26, at 4:00 a.m. The contractor was sandblasting the new deck Thursday morning in preparation for the low slump wearing course overlay Friday morning. The work had to be completed in temps below 80 degrees.

Traffic on Highway 23/Division Street in St. Cloud was switched over to the newly constructed westbound lanes last week. The temporary bypass around the Lake George bridge will stay in effect until the final construction on the north half of the new bridge is complete. This intermediate completion and traffic switch is scheduled for the end of next week.

Eastbound left turns at Washington Memorial Drive are no longer permitted, for the remainder of the project. Eastbound motorists can turn left or go straight and turn left at several intersections beginning with 16th Avenue. Eastbound right turns and westbound right/left turning movements will be allowed.

The first bridge deck wearing course overlay was completed on Tuesday, with the final overlay scheduled for this Friday. Bridge railing, sidewalk and median will be completed this week. The completion of the westbound portion of the bridge is still on scheduled for early July.

Geofoam placement was completed on the westbound on/off ramps on Monday with the concrete cap completion scheduled for this week.

Street light base and conduit installation continues throughout the project.

Underground utility work on the east end of the project will be completed this week with gravel and curb/gutter planned for Friday. Utility work on the west end of the project will be completed next week with the gravel and curb/gutter to follow shortly after.

On/off ramps at 9th Avenue South are closed to traffic. 9th/10th Avenue traffic continues on the southbound lanes between 4th Street and St. Germain Street.

Mississippi River Bridge

In observance of the Fourth of July Holiday, bridge crews will not be working on Friday, July 3.

Crews continue work on bridge diaphragms from lifts off of the barges.

Crews are placing rebar on span #4 and will pour the first section of the concrete structural deck over Riverside Drive in the next two weeks.

Decking crews will begin decking the main span starting on the west end next week.

Crews will finish storm sewer work from 4th Avenue to the bridge this week.

Crews continue working on walls for the bike trail and bridge retaining wall on the west side of the river for the next two weeks.

Granite stone veneer installation continues on the west abutment and wing walls. Crews expect to have this finished by the end of June and will then move to the east abutment and pier #3.

Crews are installing the 16" insulated water main for the river crossing between the girders.

Tower supports are being removed from east and west banks.

Boat traffic will be maintained on the Mississippi River during this project.
